The Police Department has 1 School Resource Officer (SRO) who works within the Waite Park schools. The SRO spends most of the day at Discovery Elementary school and McKinley Alternative Learning Center. 

The SRO is responsible for handling any crimes that happen within the school. They also spend time discussing problems with students, enforcing the laws within and around the school. Along with the enforcement of laws, the SRO also educates the students and staff at both schools. The SRO presents to large or small groups about ways to prevent becoming a crime victim, bullying, drugs, alcohol and other safety topics. 

When the schools are on summer vacation the SRO is assigned to patrol, crime prevention and works with youth programs.
